Seven Steps on How to Make the Homemade Tilapia Fish Feed

When you raise tilapia either in cages, tanks, or ponds, they need the certain diets. The diets can be live or frozen feed. You can even make the tilapia fish food by yourself. Here are seven steps on how to make the homemade tilapia fish feed, formulated pellets by yourself.

Step 1

Tilapia fish food should cover carbohydrates, fats, protein, vitamins, and minerals. You need to prepare for the nutritious ingredients such as spinach or lettuce, fruit, seaweed, and root vegetables. Mix the ingredients and make the puree from those ingredients.

Step 2

After making the puree, add protein to it. There are many sources of protein you can have for making tilapia fish food. They can be from dried, frozen, or fresh fish meal and seafood. You can choose one of them. It depends on your preference and the budget.

Step 3

The next step is to blend the puree and the source of protein. Blend the mixture and the protein by using the blender until they become smooth. You can add a little water, clam juice, or vegetable if you need. The purpose is to make the mixture become the dry and solid dough.

Step 4

Next, you need to add some vitamins to the mixture. A blue-green algae supplement, semolina, spirulina powder or fish oil tablets will be the good options for the additives.

Step 5

Use a meat grinder to mix the dough. After grinding the dough put it into the pasta maker. When the noodles come out from the machine, you cut them into pellet shapes.

Step 6

Spray the oil on the pellet cuts before you put them on a cookie sheet or aluminum foil. Dry them in an oven on low heat temperature. If you don’t have an oven, you can use a dehydrator.

Steps 7

Finally, take the pellets out from the oven. Wait the pellets become dry. Then save them in a freezer bag. The point of storing the pellets in the freezer bag is to keep the pellets fresh for about six months.

Besides feeding your tilapia with the artificial pellets, you can feed the fish with your formulated homemade pellets. Follow the instructions; you can make tilapia fish food.
