Standardization of Technical Feasibility of Infrastructure and Equipment for Black Tilapia Seed Production

The production of black tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus Bleeker) seed class is formulated as an effort to improve quality assurance and food safety, considering that black tilapia seeds are widely traded and have a great influence on cultivation activities so that certain technical requirements are needed.

Production requirements:

a. Location of the pond. 
- Pond water source. 
  Clear unpolluted water available throughout the year.
- Ponding area.
   The pond area is free from flooding and free from the influence of environmental pollution.
- Pond soil type.
   Sandy clay loam soil with a ratio of 3: 2. 
- Altitude of fish farming land.
  0 m to 1,000 m above sea level.

b. Container. 
Fish larvae production.
- The spawning container is a pond with a minimum size of 400 m2.
- Larval rearing containers are ponds, tanks, or hapa.

First fingerlings production.
- Fry rearing in cement tanks.
- Fry rearing in hapa or nets installed in ponds.
- Fry rearing in earthen ponds with a minimum water depth of 60 cm.

Production of the second broodstock.
- Fish rearing in earthen ponds with a water depth of at least 60 cm.

Third broodstock production. 
- Tilapia rearing in earthen ponds, minimum water depth of 80 cm. 

c. Water quality for tilapia spawning activities.
- temperature 25 - 30 degrees Celsius.
- Water pH value 6.5 - 8.5. 
- Dissolved oxygen content of at least 5 mg/l.
- Water level in the pond 70 - 100 cm.
- Brightness greater than 30 cm 

Materials needed in tilapia farming: 

a) fish feed. 
pellets, artificial feed containing at least 25% protein, 6% to 8% fat.

b) fertilizer. 
Fertilizers used in tilapia farming ponds are organic & inorganic fertilizers. 

c) Chemicals, biological materials and fish medicines using fish medicines that are registered and not prohibited.
